Nestled within the rugged mountains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the emerald mines of Swat have been producing fine-quality gemstones since their rediscovery in the mid-20th century. Swat emeralds are formed through regional metamorphism and hydrothermal activity, embedded in talc-carbonate schists and dolomitic marbles.
